On a Silent Night

I hear a choir, I guess they're singing down at the church

On a midnight clear, it's the night of a heavenly birth

The stores are all closing they've taken in all they can

Christ might be the saviour, but money makes the man

On a silent night

Here comes old Santa Claus, I  wonder what he is thinkin'

Staggers down the street, you can tell that the old boy's been drinkin'

Cursing at his reindeer and calling out their names

Come tomorrow morning he's the one who'll get the blame

On a silent night.

Mary and Joseph, they came into town on a bus

Nobody noticed them, nobody cared very much

Over at the Inn, they were turned away

Didn't like their looks, they knew they couldn't pay

On a silent night

I know a story, they say that it's all make believe

But I hear the bells, ringing on this Christmas eve

Ribbons and tinsel, and twinkling lights

I'm sitting on this bench, staring at the sight

On a silent night
